Hello! My name is Ivan. I’m a 22 yo student who moved from Russia to Sweden and now study language to become a dental technician. I chose that profession because it is pretty close to my hobby, clay figures.
Of course my hobby didn’t appeared from nothing from first day of my life, my way was tricky and inspired by different people, and the first person was my mother and her love to make art.
I was always inspired by her art, because the walls in our old home in Russia were filled with her paintings.
I also started to redraw what I like using paper, pencil and pastel. Unfortunately, I can’t show you my work, because I didn't make any photos of it back in Russia, but I assure you, it was decent, not best, but for a person without any skill and only powered by enthusiasm, it was nice. Since I was 12 yo until these days I could make a rare redraw of what I like and fill that urge to create, even if that was not my own art.
But just redrawing someone else's art stopped filling my urge to create, so I started looking for something else, and I found that in modeling, 3D modeling.
That was not easy, just to make each of rough “sketches” i need to spend 30+ hours due to my lack of skill and constans search of new information to fix thing like that.
I liked it, but not too much. I wanted to not only make things, but also feel it, so I moved to another direction, and built a model kit, hard to build, easy to make something cool. I wanted more, so I bought some more.
I wanted to have things from my favorite Tv-series, films, games, but sadly I like things that have overpriced merch or none at all. And finally here I decided to make ones by myself, Small, rough and simple.
And here I felt that feeling of power in my hands. Have an ability that lets you make whatever you want, and the only limitation is your skill and will. And I started making things. At first, I pressed on quantity, not on quality. With each and other attempts I tested different tactics, paints, sizes. First figure took me a day to make it, and one of the last took a month to finish it.
Of course I have failures, and some figures which were over my skill at some moment weren't as good as I expected.
I keep improving my skill through my own experience and through the experience of other people who I watch or follow.
I like this hobby because of how hard and complex it can be. You face challenges in different areas of art and try to overcome them in a way which suits you best. You need not only imagine a picture in your head, but also make a “skeleton” of what you want from all sides, then you need to build that figure in such way, so it could look good in any angle possible, and as a cherry on cake, you should paint you work and try not make it worse, but better.
I like my hobby, even if it exhausts me, or I dislike my work, the feeling of improving and complete work pays off everything. Maybe, one day i will turn my hobby in something profitable, but even if it would not happen, I will not stop creating things which I like.
