Under the supervision of Dr. Samer Seifo, Consultant in the Health Sector at the International Organization for Media, Creativity, and Development, Dr. Bashar Al‑Shaar delivered his lecture on Intestinal Obstruction, at Salamiyah National Hospital, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

1. The importance of clinical examination in diagnosing intestinal obstruction, as delayed surgical diagnosis in cases of strangulated obstruction significantly increases mortality rates, particularly among the elderly and patients with multiple comorbidities. Intestinal obstruction accounts for no less than 20% of emergency cases.
2. The primary classification based on pathophysiological mechanism and anatomical site of obstruction, and how to differentiate according to the severity and location of bowel injury.
3. Epidemiology and general and detailed causes of small and large bowel obstruction, in addition to the pathophysiological changes and clinical manifestations associated with intestinal obstruction.
4. The importance of Radiography, including computed tomography (CT), X-ray and MRI, along with laboratory investigations, to distinguish between mechanical obstruction and paralytic ileus, and to support rapid and accurate decision‑making regarding surgical intervention versus conservative treatment.
